The Port of Shelton is authorized by the federal government to establish
secured locations considered to be outside the customs territory
of the United States of America, though under U.S. Customs supervision
and control. Firms may take advantage of the Foreign Trade Zones
(FTZ) to postpone and, in the case of re-export of cargo, avoid
the applications of U.S. Customs laws that impose duties, taxes,
bonds, quotas and certain other requirements.
